GREAT MOMENTS IN HISTORY
Tales to Astonish #73: While on the Watcher's homeworld
on a mission from the Leader to get the Ultimate Machine (a device
capable of granting the bearer all the knowledge in the world),
the Hulk is attacked by Amphibion.
Tales to Astonish #74: Amphibion and the Hulk have a long
and intense battle, but in the end, the Hulk wins. The Watcher transports
Amphibion back to his planet, without the Ultimate Machine.
The Incredible Hulk #269: Amphibion, along with Torgo and
Dark-Crawler(who was originally called Night-crawler, by the way)
come to Earth as the Hulk-Hunters to seek out the Hulk. Not knowing
they are just there to seek his help, the Hulk attacks and defeats
them all. The Empress who gathered the Hulk-Hunters, comes down
and tells the Hulk about the Galaxy-Master who threatens the entire
universe. The Hulk agrees to help and goes into space with them.
The Incredible Hulk #270: While on the spaceship, Amphibion
explains to the Hulk that since his defeat on the Watcher's homeworld,
he has gone from planet to planet, honing his fighting skills. They
skirmish but it is broken up. They go into battle with the Galaxy-Master
and his champion, the Abomination.
The Hulk-Hunters go after the Galaxy-Master while the Hulk goes
after the Abomination. Unable to defeat the Hulk, the Abomination
knows out Amphibion. The Hulk eventually defeats the Galaxy-Master
and gets lost in space.
The Incredible Hulk #471: Amphibion comes across Bruce
Banner walking in the desert at the end of the issue.
The Incredible Hulk #472: Amphibion, or Qnax, explains
to the Hulk that when he was returned to his home planet in that
original battle, he found his world in chaos. When he questioned
the Council of Elders, they judged him to be arrogant and a heretic
and sent him into permanent exile. He asks Bruce for help to go
back to the Watcher's planet to get the Ultimate Machine so that
he could use it to bring peace back to his planet. They use the
Leaders old equipment to transport themselves via thoughtwaves.
Instead of landing on the Watcher's planet, they are bounced to
a nearby planet. The residents of the planet explain that the proximity
of the Watcher's world is causing them to have nightmares and slowly
driving them insane. Bruce and Qnax volunteer to take a ship to
the Watcher's planet.
The Incredible Hulk #473: Bruce and Qnax take the ship
and manage to get through the Watcher's barrier around his planet.
AFter getting in, they are subjected to visions such as Galactus
devouring a world, the Skrull and Kree fighting on the moon, and
the Hulk battling the Avengers. They find the Watcher and explain
what they are there for. Just as the Watcher hands them the Ultimate
Machine, the natives to the other planet decide to attack.
The Incredible Hulk #474: The Watcher beats a hasty retreat
to the inner parts of the planet with Bruce and Qnax right behind
him. The Watcher reveals that the true Ultimate Machine shows not
only all the known knowledge but also the "truth." Bruce and Qnax
both decide to step in. Bruce sees his whole life for what it is
and finds acceptance in all aspects. Qnax sees the history of his
race and that the Council of Elders was just after power, not order.
He is sent back to his planet in hopes that he can bring peace with
a new sense of justice. Bruce is sent back to Earth.
