while both were attending medical school. They dated while in school,
but when Angela received a grant for graduate work and Bruce didn't.
Jealously led Bruce to destroy the relationship and he just stopped
going to see her.
GREAT MOMENTS IN HISTORY
The Incredible Hulk #12: Bruce shows up at Angela's doorstep
after determining he has Lou Gehrig's disease. He knocks on the
door and she answers it and slaps him in the face. Angela, still
mad about how they left things years ago, says that she is busy.
He says he's there to throw himself on the mercy of the court. She
rants about he shows up after years on no contact and that she is
not afraid of him even though he can turn into the Hulk. That's
when he tells her he is dying. He explains his symptoms but figures
he might be wrong so that's why he came to see her since she is
a neurologist. Bruce thinks back to when the both of them where
in medical college. They dated for awhile but when Bruce didn't
get a grant for graduate school and Angela did, Bruce got jealous
and just left, never saying anything. Angela explains how she is
working on equipment that would trigger a response in patients which
allows them to physically confront their subconscious. Bruce recounts
his life a Gamma Base and how he first became the Hulk. The next
day, Angela starts a battery of tests on Bruce but in the end, the
results show that Bruce does have Lou Gehrig's disease. Angela tries
to comfort Bruce by telling her that strides have been taken and
there are recent advances that can relieve symptoms for a few years.
Bruce explains that the Hulk will not allow him to die. He tells
Angela that he is going to have to leave because the Hulk is becoming
more uncontrollable and unpredictable. Angela figures out that the
Hulk is actually just another personality. After a terrifying dream
where he sees the Corrupt Hulk taking over, he decides to let Angela
use her equipment. She does it because of their time together in
college and because Bruce is the mother lode for disassociative
identity disorders.
The Incredible Hulk #13: While Bruce is stuck in his subconscious
fighting the Guilt Hulk with help from
the Grey Hulk and the
Professor, Angela tries to bring Bruce out but she can't. She
figures that this is many years of psychosis trying to work itself
out. Bruce finally defeats the Guilt Hulk,
at least for now, and comes back to reality. He tells Angela about
the deal he has made with the Hulks in regards to which Hulk gets
to be present when after Bruce dies. They get in the car and Angela
drives them away.
The Incredible Hulk #14: Angela stays by the car as Bruce
goes to visit Betty's gravesite to talk to her. Bruce borrows Angela's
car for a short drive but just keeps driving. After a fight with
gamma-powered dogs with the Hulk, Bruce comes knocking on Angela's
door.
The Incredible Hulk #15: Angela tries to explain to Bruce
about his disease as he just sits there thinking about dying. She's
trying to understand why Bruce is deteriorating so quickly and figures
it may have something to do with his altered genetic makeup. Just
then, two men knock on the door. They happen to be General Ryker
and another government agent disguised as Jehovah's Witnesses. Angela
answers the door with a hidden gun. They talk to her about God and
the devil. Bruce peaks out a window and recognizes Ryker as being
in the background from the very first Gamma Bomb explosion that
released the Hulk. Ryker walks back to his car and secretly radios
his men to be on alert when a desk flies through a wall and there
stands the Grey Hulk, Joe Fixit, holding
Anglea. Angela ask Bruce what he is playing at. Joe says that he
has an idea and to never call him Bruce. Angela recognizes that
this is the Joe Fixit persona and wonders why he is acting like
the stupid Hulk. Joe says he has a plan and that later she can show
her appreciation. Angela just laughs. Joe breaks out of the roof
with what looks to be Angela. A tank fires a shell and hits them,
sending both bodies flying apart from each other. Soldiers look
at the body of Angela and see that it is just a surgeons skeleton
dressed in Angela's clothes. Joe tricks the General and takes a
picture of him and then escapes. Joe grabs the Angela, who was hiding
in a closet and jumps away.
The Incredible Hulk #16: Angela explains to Doc Samson everything
that has happened to her since Bruce came back into her life. Samson
asks how all that makes her feel and Angela asks Samson to save
the questions for his patients. They walk together to find Bruce
in Samson's lab. Bruce explains that he is in the Professor
form since the disease prevents him from staying in his human form
for long. Bruce explains to Angela that in this form, he retains
the mind of Bruce but the strength of the Hulk. Bruce explains to
Samson how Ryker tracked him via his radiation signal and that he
was working on a method to dispense his signal. Bruce tells Angela
she can get some of Betty's old clothes from the closet. Angela
looks at Bruce strangely. The Hulk tells Samson and Angela that
he is going to visit an old friend and that the masking device works.
After he leaves, Angela ask Samson when he is going to tell the
Professor that he is not Bruce Banner.
Samson tries to brush it off, but Angela says that the Bruce Banner
she knew was never so confident or proud and also the fact that
he is left-handed and Bruce Banner is not left-handed. Samson still
tries to brush it off but Angela explains about different MPD personalities.
She says that the Professor thinks
he is Bruce Banner but he really isn't. Samson admits he didn't
have a choice. Angela accuses Samson of lying to Bruce and Samson
finally admits it. Samson explains that at the time, Bruce was falling
apart and this is the only way to keep Bruce's mind from deteriorating
and that he hoped that eventually the Professor
would mesh with the true Bruce personality but that never happened.
Angela says that Samson should have told Bruce and that he didn't
have the right but Samson said what about the rights of everyone
else.
The Incredible Hulk #17: Doc Samson gets off the phone and
tells Angela that the She-Hulk just informed him that the conviction
in the airline crash against Bruce has been upheld. Apparently the
judge was going to dismiss it and suddenly changed his mind. The
She-Hulk is convinced that someone got to the judge. Angela tells
Samson that she is sorry she called him a liar. She apologizes and
says that none of her patients are walking nuclear bombs and that
he did what he could given the circumstances. Samson thanks her.
He says if he could have done things differently, he would. Angela
says that if any other gamma-irradiated science nerds with MPD show
up, just don't do it again. Samson laughs and says okay.
The Incredible Hulk #18: Angela talks to Private Tibbs who
explains how Ryke picked him out for a "special mission" and subjected
him to experiments which eventually turned him into Flux. He tells
her he volunteered to make him mom proud. Tibbs looks at Angela's
legs and his power starts to activate but he gets it under control.
Later, she looks over Samsons shoulders and tells him his theories
about Tibbs are wrong. He asks her what she proposes and she says
that she propose that it is time for bed. Samson wonders if that
is an invitation. Later, it is shown that Ryker has captured Doc
Samson, Angela and Tibbs and has them all handcuffed. Ryker talks
to Tibbs and Angela threatens to rip Ryker's lungs out if he touches
Tibbs again. She can only watch as the Hulk arrives and Ryker blackmails
him into surrendering.
The Incredible Hulk #19: Angela is in a room with Doc Samson
and a camera looking at them. Angela wonders why Ryker put them
into an unlocked room. Samson says that Ryker knows he will do nothing
for fear of Ryker killing innocent people. They just hold each other.
The Incredible Hulk #20: Angela is seen being
rescued by SHIELD soldiers and later standing beside Doc Samson
after the fighting is over.
The Incredible Hulk #24: Angela is seen snuggling
with Doc Samson on a couch.
The Incredible Hulk #25: Angela comes into
the room and turns the TV on to show Doc Samson live coverage of
the Hulk's big fight with the Abomination.
The Avengers #39: Bruce watches a show talking
about all the Hulk-like creatures appearing in a Greek town suddenly
and the legacy of Dr. Bruce Banner. Angela comes in to try and comfort
Bruce by telling him what is happening the that town is not his
fault. The Incredible Hulk #26: Angela wakes up in the middle
of the night and stares out the window. When Doc Samson asks her
what is the matter, she says that she is worried about Bruce. She
feels that Bruce will never have closure after seeing Betty's body
and that this could be a set back for him. She tells Samson that
he needs the support of friends right now and they don't even know
where he is.
