Origin: Private Benny Tibbets was a soldier during the first Gulf War in Iraq. While over there, a black ops group in the US government dropped gamma bombs on Benny's platoon under the guise of Iraqi helicopters. He was also subjected to gamma radiation by the government later.. Benny's severe self-doubts about himself allowed General Ryker to control him when he gained his powers.

GREAT MOMENTS IN HISTORY

The Incredible Hulk #17: Benny is sitting at a bar in a truck stop when a local girl starts flirting with hiim. He talks to her nervously about how he has to go back to base. The girl continues to flirt until Benny looses control and turns into Flux. He says that no one should look at him and he jumps out the window and runs back to the base. Later Benny is back to normal, hitting a sandbag. He starts to talk to himself and eventually calls himself a freak, turning back into Flux and breaking the bag. General Ryker comes in and tells him to stand down and Benny reverts to normal. General Ryker tells Benny that his orders have finally come in, to track down the Bruce Banner, who General Ryker says is responsible for Benny's condition. General Ryker tells Benny his mission has always been to return the 'traitor' Bruce before any more innocent lives are endangered. General Ryker tells his that the President sends his best and proceeds to tell Benny that the Hulk was linked to the downing of an airplane and that he was linked to the Iraquis along with selling technology to the former Soviet Union. He then mentions his mother and that she would be proud of him. Later on, he parachutes into a swamp alone to confront the Hulk. The Hulk doesn't think too much until Benny suddenly changes into Flux and sucker punches the Hulk. The two fight, while Benny throws out comments about the Hulk being responsible for what's happened to him. The Hulk tells Benny that whatever General Ryker told him was lies and that he plays with people's minds. The Hulk suddenly stops fighting back while Benny continues to hit him, saying how he watched his friends die out in the desert. Benny eventually starts to calm down and revert back from Flux to Benny and the Hulk knocks him into the swamp water. Benny finally admits that he always figured it wasn't the Iraqis who dropped the gamma bomb on them in the desert. The hulk fishes him out of the water and turns back into Bruce and talks to Benny one on one.

The Incredible Hulk #18: Benny talks with Angela Lipscombe about what the government did to him and how they convinced him that what they were doing to him was okay. He also lets it slip about how he just wanted to make him mom proud. Doc Samson looks on through a one-way mirror and takes notes. He looks at Angela's legs and starts to loose control but regains it. Later on, General Ryker sneaks up and catches Angela, Doc Samson, and Benny. General Ryker tells how disappointed he is in Benny and wonders what Benny's family will think when they find out Benny betrayed him.

The Incredible Hulk #19: General Ryker observes the restrained Benny as he asks one of his aides about a psych analysis. The aide says that the profile has pretty standard information but that Doc Samson's notes say that Benny has unresolved issues about his mother. The aide asks why that information was important and General Ryker says that the information may be the key to the 'gamma castle.'

The Incredible Hulk #20: General Ryker tortures Benny while playing mindgames with him. When the Hulk escapes from General Ryker and SHIELD attacks his secret base, General Ryker brings the brainwashed Flux out with him. General Ryker pretending to be Benny's mother, tells him to attack Doc Samson. The Hulk then steps in and Flux and the Hulk start fighting. While the two continue to fight, the Hulk tries to rationalize with Benny to reverse the brainwashing but General Ryker keeps on Benny, calling him Flux and saying that the Hulk wants to hurt "mommy." General Ryker disappears to try and save his wife and Flux starts to loose it when his faux 'mommy" isn't around to give him directions. He finally turns back into Benny and collapses on the floor.
