GREAT MOMENTS IN HISTORY
The Incredible Hulk #231: The Hulk is walking
through the center of a town in the middle of the night when he
sees Fred thrown out the door of a bar. An older man comes out,
calling Fred a hippie, and is about to hit him again when the
Hulk mistakes him for a soldier and throws him through the window
and back into the bar. Fred stands before the Hulk and says all
he wanted was a drink and dares anybody to fight him now. Everybody
clears out of the bar. Fred gives the Hulk a hug and says that
he owes him. The Hulk thinks Fred is crazy and tries to walk past
him. Fred offers the Hulk a place to sleep for the night. The
Hulk wakes the next morning in Fred's house to the smell of breakfast.
He goes downstairs and surprises Fred's girlfriend who screams
when she sees the Hulk. Fred runs down and tries to calm her down,
but she just thinks he's crazy and leaves. The Hulk, meanwhile,
sits at the table and happily eats the breakfast. When Fred hears
police sirens, he figures his girlfriend called the cops, so he
and the Hulk get in his van and take off. They get to a police
roadblock and Fred tries to disguise the Hulk but the police notice
him. The Hulk freaks out and destroys the police's car. The Hulk
gets back into the van and tells Fred to drive and Fred, shaken
by how violent the Hulk just was, says okay and drives off.
Captain America #230: Fred is driving along
with the Hulk, smoking a "cigarette" and the smell of the "cigarette"
calms the Hulk down and he turns back into Bruce Banner. Fred
hears a cop car and turns to the Hulk and is surprised to see
Bruce who introduces himself. The cops cut Fred's van off and
when they go up to the window, they fire tranqulizers into both
Fred and Bruce, knocking them out. They take them and the truck
with them inside another larger truck.
The Incredible Hulk #233: The Hulk chases
one of the people responsible for kidnapping him into a warehouse.
Inside a truck, he finds Fred tied up in his van. Marvel Man tries
to stop the Hulk and the Hulk just sends him flying. Fred and
the Hulk get into the van and drive off. Fred goes and visits
an old friend and gets worried when she sees the Hulk. The Hulk
recognizes her at Trish Starr from his days with the Defenders.
The Incredible Hulk #234: Trish tells Fred
about all her adventures with the Hulk and the Defenders. She
then leads them into the house where she is staying out with some
college friends. Later, the Hulk is eating at the table while
all the hippies staying at the house stand behind the Hulk with
Fred and Trish whispering until the Hulk finally gets mad enough
and breaks the table. Trish calms him down and leads him away
while Fred tells his friends how they have changed in terms of
helping someone under oppression. Fred goes up to find Trish sitting
by the Hulk, who is sleeping on a bed. Fred wonders what happened
to them and all their principals and ideals from the 60's. The
man who kidnapped the Hulk and Fred previously find out where
he is now and sends some agents over in the middle of the night.
They break into the house and fire a gas which paralyzes everybody,
including the Hulk. A man dressed up like Machine Man walks in
and takes Trish and tells the Hulk that if he wants to see Trish
again, he will meet him at his house. He then leaves with Trish
as a hostage. As the gas wears off, the Hulk gets angrier until
he can finally move. He grabs Fred and punches a hole in the house
saying that he is going to find the man who kidnapped Trish and
smash him.
The Incredible Hulk #235: The Hulk leaps
through the air to find Trish, with Fred hanging onto the Hulk's
neck. Fred looses his grip during one leap but the Hulk reaches
out and grabs him and tells him that he will not let Fred get
hurt. Fred looks at a map and determines how close they are to
the house address the fake Machine Man gave them. They finally
get to the house and the Hulk is ready to go in busting up the
house. Fred tells him that Trish might get hurt so they walk up
to the house and knock on the door but nobody answers. The Hulk
pushes the door open and they go into the deserted house and look
around. They find some guns in a desk drawer. Machine Man finally
arrives home with his friend Peter Spaulding when the Hulk attacks
him immediately. Peter runs into the house to call for help but
Fred pulls a gun on him and demands to know where Trish is.
The Incredible Hulk #236: Fred holds the
gun on Peter and demands some answers. Peter, obviously confused,
can tell Fred won't fire the gun so he walks up and takes it from
him. Fred then tells his story and Peter knows they are both being
set-up by the Corporation. He is about to call for help when the
battle between the Hulk and Machine Man erupts into the house.
Fred is about to go and tell the Hulk what is going on but Peter
says that the Hulk is too far gone to listen to reason. Peter
grabs Fred and they get into Peter's car toget help. Peter and
Fred go to General Kragg, a friend of Machine Man to get some
help. The General has one of his men call Gamma Base to support.
The Incredible Hulk #237: Fred stands around
watching Peter and the General talk to Clay Quartermain and wonders
what he has gotten himself into. Fred arrives at the end of the
battle just in time to see Machine Man send the hypnotized Hulk
shooting away where he won't hurt anybody.
The Incredible Hulk #240: Fred was approached
by a publishing company to write an insiders book on the Hulk
but he is having a hard time. He tells Trish that the government
has lots of information on the Hulk which has never been publicized
by it had no humanity. He tells her he needs to interview people
but Rick Jones, Betty Ross, and other people don't return his
calls.
The Incredible Hulk #243: Fred sits and starts
to interview Betty Ross about her first reaction to the Hulk and
when she found out Bruce was the Hulk. Trish Starr comes over
after talking on the phone and tells Fred that he is to go on
a talk show and discuss his book and the other person who is going
to be on the show is Rick Jones. Fred is extremely excited but
also wonders where the Hulk is.
The Incredible Hulk #245: Fred appears on
the Mike Douglas show and along with Rick Jones, talks about his
experiences with the Hulk. After the show, backstage, Fred mentions
to Rick about the book his writing about the Hulk.
The Incredible Hulk #247: Betty Ross flies
Fred along with Rick Jones down to where the Hulk was fighting
Colonel Talbot and Captain Marvel. They learn that the Hulk was
shrunk along with Jarella's body and
that Talbot ordered the equipment destroyed immediately afterward.
Fred figures he now has an ending for his book, even though it
is an ending he didn't want.
The Incredible Hulk #248: Fred is seen in
the background, not believing that the Hulk is really gone. Later,
he is seen in Betty's plane, as she prepares to fly everyone back
home.
The Incredible Hulk #249: Betty flies Fred
and Rick Jones to a cabin in the Rocky Mountains so that Fred
can interview her dad, General Ross. They get to the cabin to
find it deserted. Moments later, a half human/half-horse creature
bursts through the door, bleeding, and surprises them.
The Incredible Hulk #251: Fred, Betty, and
Rick look upon the fallen Centaur in the cabin when a cloaked
person comes in and warns them that if the Centaur dies, they
are in trouble. Rick notices more half-man/half-animal creatures
outside the cabin. Doc Samson comes crashing in and the covered
person reveals himself to be Woodgod and a fight breaks out.
The Incredible Hulk #252: Fred gets taken
prison from Woodgod and taken back to Woodgod's camp along with
Rick Jones, Betty Ross, and General Ross. They watch from a cage
as Woodgod and the other half-human/half-animal creatures that
populate the village argue about what they should do with the
humans, especially since they think the humans injured centauron.
Woodgod, being the leader, says that the humans fate depends on
the if centauron lives or dies. Fred and everyone else help Woodgod
bring the injured centauron into Woodgod's lab and listen to his
origin. A short time later, the Hulk wanders into the village
and the residents start attacking him. By this point, Fred and
the rest realize that as long as Centauron lives, they will be
free to go and that the Hulk being there makes things worse. They
try to convince the Hulk that he shouldn't be there and he just
gets more mad as the village residents continue to fight him.
Siren, a half-women/half-bird creature flies at the Hulk and Fred
begs the Hulk not to hurt her. Siren scratches at the Hulk's face
and he just bats her away. Fred tells the Hulk that she was just
a girl and the Hulk doesn't understand why Fred is worried about
the girl getting hurt and not him. Fred goes over and helps the
injured Siren, while the Hulk gets mad that his friends seemingly
turned against him and leaves the village. Unbeknownst to him,
one of the residents of the village has made more of his own creatures
and plans to take over the village.
The Incredible Hulk #253: The new changlings
try to convince everyone that the humans need to be killed since
Centauron died, even though one of them poisoned him. Fred goes
to Siren and tries to convince her that they are not killers.
Siren, flies away, confused with her loyalty to her people and
her growing feelings for Fred. Leoninus, leading the evil changlings,
takes a hold of Betty and Fred and Rick are ready to fight him
to free her. Siren discovers the poison and goes and gets the
Hulk and Samson to help free their friends. They get back to the
village and announce their discovery, leading to the two sides
of changlings to fight. Fred and Rick help defeat a snake changling.
The evil changlings are eventually defeated and Woodgod says that
the humans have proven themselves friends and they have his gratitude.
He offers to escort them out of the valley. Fred says that he
is going to stay to be a liasion between the changlings and humans
and to have a place to finish his book but the main reason is
his new romance with Siren.
The Hulk #8: Fred Sloan, announced as the
author of a new book entitled "Hulk Encounter: A Survivor's Story"
is asked about the recent deaths attributed to the Hulk. Fred
first says that the title is misleading and that he knew the Hulk
to be a sensible being who was harmless unless provoked. He felt
that there must be some sort of explanation as to what happened.
