Origin: To forever be rid of the Hulk and to start building his own
army, the Leader sets off a gamma bomb
in the town of Middletown. He kidnaps the only five survivors of the
explosion to start his new order of beings.
GREAT MOMENTS IN HISTORY
The Incredible Hulk #345: Father McCall preaches before his
ever dwindling flock about how their town of Middletown is slowly
dying from lost jobs but that God is watching down on them. After
the sermon, he gets a call from the Vicar that an accountant will
be coming out to check on the financial irregularities in the Church
books. Father McCall nervously says that he looks forward to the visit.
Diane wakes up and tells her husband that she is "sick of defending
crummy people over crummy things" and that they might want to get
out of the town. Jessie gets into a fight with her parents about her
boyfriend Lou and storms out. Burt, an encyclopedia salesman, drives
into the town of Middletown, passing by workers burying objects just
outside the city limits. He is tired of his job. Later, Jesse talks
to Lou outside of school about how unfair her parents were being.
Lou says not to worry since Jesse is almost eighteen and that they
should run off together that night. The principal of the school calls
Jesse's mother and informs her who her daughter was talking with.
Burt comes at that moment to try and sell encyclopedia's but Jesse's
mom just slams the door in his face. While at the start of a case,
Diane finally has enough and admits that her client is guilty. The
judge throws her in jail. Father McCall informs God that he was going
to replace the money he stole before anyone would notice and to give
him guidance. Later still, Jesse hears Bruce and the gang trying to
warn the citizens to evaculate the town. While talking to her husband
in jail, Diana overhears the same message coming from Clay's transport
vehicle. That night, Burt starts ripping up the encyclopedias. Jesse
looks out her window, waiting for Lou to come pick her up. Father
McCall tries to call the Vicar to confess but the phone lines are
dead. Diane sits in jail wondering is she really understands what
she has done. Moments before the gamma bomb explodes, the judge lets
Diane go, Jesse still waits for Lou, Father McCall resolves to call
and confess after the phones are fixed, and Burt is glad to be free
of his job. Burt tries to leave town, but the Leader's
force field keeps him trapped in the town just as it keeps Clay, Betty
and Bruce trapped outside. Then the bomb goes off.
The Incredible Hulk #346: While searching the remains of the
town of Middletown, a rescue squad finds Father McCall still alive
and with a green skin color. During a hearing about the whole gamma
bomb incident, Betty describes how after the force shield came down,
she went over to see Burt and saw him open his eyes. After all is
done, the army transports the five survivors away when the Leader
takes them from the army. He boasts how in one stroke, he killed his
enemy the Hulk and created the first of his new order of beings.
The Incredible Hulk #366: The Leader
transports the poisoned Hulk to his secret base. The Hulk fights Rock
and Redeemer but after the Hulk drops
a building on them, Jailbait traps the Hulk in an energy cage. The
Hulk tries to break free and Jailbait can't hold him much longer so
Hotshot fires energy balls at the Hulk and hurts him. The Ogress comes
up and hits the Hulk and keeps beating on him until the Leader
finally says that the Hulk has had enough. The Leader
tells the Hulk that he has two more members in reserve (Omnibus and
Soul Man).
The Incredible Hulk #367: The Hulk sits silent and motionless
in a chair, the poison wasting him away. Jailbait tries to listen
for a heartbeat but can't hear anything and says that the Hulk's body
is cold as ice. Hotshot says they should find out if he is really
dead or not before he starts to stink the place up. The Leader,
Hotshot, and Jailbait leave the room to go get some equipment. The
Hulk, along with Bruce's help figures out that Phil Sterns aka Madman
and the Leader are related. When the
Leader comes back, the Hulk pins him up against the wall and the Hulk
is too small and wasted from the poison for the Leader's
mental blasts to hit him. Jailbait and Hotshot try to break the Leader
free but they can't do it. The Leader
tells the Hulk a half truth about his brother Phil Sterns and Madman.
After the Leader transports the Hulk
away, Hotshot says the excuse the Leader
gave to the Hulk seemed pretty lame.
The Incredible Hulk #397: The U-Foes
attack the Pantheon mountain base and the Hulk and Pantheon members
go up against them. Just as the Hulk asks them what they are doing
there and who told them about the base, the Leader
appears with the Riot Squad plus Redeemer.
The Incredible Hulk #398: Rock and Redeemer attack the Hulk
along with the U-Foes and Riot
Squad. There are so many people fighting the Hulk that the Hulk
is able to throw Ogress and Ironclad
into each other. The Hulk then throws Ironclad
into Redeemer. Rock
impales the Hulk from behind but the Pantheon jump into the fight
and help. The Hulk claps his hands and knocks most of them out. He
then knocks out Vector but before he can
do anything else, Agamemnon appears and says that there has been a
truce. The Leader just smirks.
The Incredible Hulk #399: The Riot Squad transport away from
the Pantheon mountain base along with the Leader,
the U-Foes, and Rock
and Redeemer.
The Incredible Hulk #400: Jailbait and Hotshot show Rick around
Freehold, the city founded by the Leader
for people sick from radiation poison. They take Rick to the church
where the Leader talks about the purpose
of Freehold and introduces Soul Man, who can ease spirits. Soul Man
talks about helping Rick and Marlo, who is in a crystalline object,
dead. Rick thought the whole idea of bringing back Marlo from the
dead was ridiculous until he saw that the formally deceased General
Ross was actually Redeemer. In the
Leader's office, he explains to Rick
how he took the deceased General's body and used it to experiment
with his machines to revitalize cells of a dead body. The problem
was that it was too late to bring back Ross's soul. For recently deceased
people, he can use his equipment to bring them to life and Soul Man
to bring back their souls. The Leader
tells Rick it is his decision to what he wants to do about Marlo.
Rick finally agrees later to do it. Rick comes up on Soul Man, who
is meditating, and talks to him about what he is going to do. The
Leader takes Rick and Soul Man to the
lab to show him his machine. The Leader
also introduces Rick to Omnibus. Just then, Hydra forces attack the
mountain. The Hydra forces knock a wall down on Ogress and shot Hotshot
in the back. Jailbait comforts him. The Hulk arrives and agrees to
fight them for Rick while Soul Man starts his process. The Hulk, enraged,
comes into the lab and interferes with the process. He knocks down
the Leader and uses his body as a shield
when Redeemer fires. Rick pulls Marlo's
body free from the crystalline structure and leaves with her. In the
battle, Ogress digs her way out while Jailbait is still holding Hotshots
limp body. The gravely injured Leader
crawls into the crystalline structure while the Soul Man is still
performing the porcess when the Hulk throws Redeemer's
body at him and blows everything up. The Hulk digs up out of the rubble
and finds the dying Soul Man.
The Incredible Hulk #401: Omnibus tells the U-Foes
that the Leader was killed by the Hulk
and then transports them out of the base. Hotshot wakes up in the
hospital with Jailbait at his side. Jailbait tells him that Hydra
is gone and that the Leader and Soul
Man are dead. Omnibus walks in and wants to talk about new leadership.
Ogress is seen helping clean up the rubble along side Rock.
Omnibus talks in front of the residents of Freehold and officially
tells everyone that the Leader and Soul
Man are dead. He talks about how the Leader
would want them to go on and that he would be the right person to
be the new leader. They all agree. Omnibus goes back to the Leader's
office and laughs now that he has power.
The Incredible Hulk #399: The U-Foes appear briefly with the
Leader.
The Incredible Hulk #401: After the Leader is defeated, the
U-Foes are let out of their prison. They stumble across the Hulk,
who is not in a good mood. Ironclad attacks but gets the crap beaten
out of him. Knowing when a situation looks bad, Vector just says they
want to be left along and walk off.
The Incredible Hulk #436: Senator Ralston goes to Major Talbot's
office to see him and he is greated by Talbot's assistance, who is
actually Omnibus. Omnibus touches the senator's hand and gains control
of him. The senator leaves the office but can't remember why he even
went there in the first place. Omnibus just sits back, in his true
form, and laughs. Later, Omnibus boasts to himself that everything
is working out as planned. He talks about his plan but when he crosses
in front of a mirror, a reflection of the Leader
is looking back at him and says "Omnibus, shouldn't that be my plan?"
Omnibus looks shocked.
Cutting Edge #1: Omnibus, in disguise as Major Talbot's assistance,
is seen in the background as Major Talbot "convinces" the Ringmaster
to help them with the Hulk. After the Ringmaster leaves, Omnibus tells
Major Talbot that they must know the Hulk's weaknesses before they
destroy him. He tells Talbot that he has technology to help perfect
the Ringmaster's equipment. Later, in the lab, Omnibus mentally helps
the lab techs put everything together. During the experiment with
the Hulk, the equipment goes haywire and all heck breaks loose as
subconsciousnesses get out of control. At one point, Major Talbot's
sees a slavetrader with Omnibus's face. Omnibus worrys and tries to
concentrate to get control. The Ringmaster sees the true Omnibus giving
people orders to find the generators and shut them down. At one point,
Omnibus comes across a giant head of the Leader
with spider legs, obviously from Omnibus's subconsciousness, saying
that everyone will be a part of him. The Hulk manages to shut down
the equipment.
The Incredible Hulk #437: Omnibus blows up airplanes, boats
and roads under the guise of the "Alliance." Omnibus, as Lt. Dallas,
"tells" Major Talbot that he needs some time off. While driving out
of the base, Omnibus sees the Leader's
reflection in the rearview mirror and tells him to get out of his
head.
The Incredible Hulk #438: Omnibus catches Jailbait and Hotshot
in his lab at Freehold and tells them to get out. He looks in the
mirror, expecting to see the Leader and
dares him to show himself or say something. Omnibus blows up world
monuments, such as the China Wall, and laughs about it. While looking
at monitors, observing his work, he boasts more that his plan is coming
together, and as he speaks, his physical features slowly take on those
of the Leader. The Incredible Hulk
#439: The Hulk finally makes it to the outskirts of Freehold but
is attacked by Ogress and Hotshot. The Hulk gets a drop on Ogress
and threatens to break her in half if Hotshot does not take him down
below into Freehold. Jailbait is looking at some lab rats in Omnibus's
lab when Omnibus walks in. Jailbait hides under a desk so not to upset
him. She overhears him talking about the Alliance group and his plans.
He explodes bombs at Wall Street, the Trade Towers, and the White
House. Hotshot and Ogress lead the Hulk through the Freehold city.
Omnibus greets the Hulk and the Hulk asks to get the X-ray equipment.
Omnibus finds grenade fragments in the Hulk's brain and then tells
the Hulk he does not know where the Leader's
machinery is which would remove it. Omnibus proposes the Hulk stay
there until he can figure out how to remove the fragments. He then
tells the Hulk about what the mysterious "Alliance" group is doing
out in the world, destoying it. The Hulk sees the destruction and
sees the future as the Maestro said it would happen. To stop the world
from destroying itself, the Hulk turns himself into a modern day Maestro
infront of Omnibus who gets a little freaked out.
The Incredible Hulk #440: Omnibus boasts to himself how quickly
his plan is coming together and that he has agents planted throughout
the government. Hotshot and some other members of Freehold come into
Omnibus's lab and confront him, asking if he is the one behind the
"Alliance." They take him into custody.
The Incredible Hulk #441: Omnibus is taken from a jail cell
and brought to a court. Omnibus is accussed by Hotshot of masterminding
a "phantom" terrorist organization. Omnibus tells the jury that the
people in the world would have destroyed themselves eventually, he
was just helping them along and that he should not be held to standards
of right and wrong. They find him guilty.
The Incredible Hulk #442: Hotshot and Jailbait and other members
of Freehold fly Omnibus over the artic circle. They tell Omnibus to
get out and strip most of his clothes off. Omnibus confesses that
it wasn't his idea, that the Leader's
soul and intellect was in his head and the Leader
was the true mastermind. Then, the Leader
comes out but nobody buys it and they throw him off the plane into
the snow. He begs them to stop but they leave him. The last scene
is Omnibus walking thorugh the snow and coming across a polar bear.
The Incredible Hulk #464: Jailbait and Hotshot explain to General
Ross how the Troyans came into Freehold
with an unstoppable force and took control of the city. General Ross
says that he remembers part of his time there when he was Redeemer.
